The Human Race

I once read a quote that said that people are complicated and we rush to grow up and then when we do, we wish we were young again. They said we anxiously think about the future, forget to live in the present, and constantly think about mistakes in the past. Were too afraid to take chances, pass them up, & then when it’s too late we get angry for not taking it or trying harder. Sometimes we don’t speak up when something’s bothering us. Sometimes we want attention and go off to the side alone hoping someone will come over & ask what’s wrong but if no one does we feel worse. We’ll do something to someone and get mad when they do it to us, sort of like hypocrites. Sometimes when were sad we listen to sad songs to remind of us of the sadness so we get even sadder. People also deny the very pleasure we have wanted once it’s in our reach. That is the way of people to want something and then act like they don’t just for someone to try harder to give it to them. But they find themselves beyond angry because no one did try harder to give them the thing they rejected as if they didn’t want it. Simply because they can’t say yes, refuse to yes, and won’t admit the answer is yes when they mean yes. I am a person myself and I admit I’ve done these things but I have no reasoning’s why. In the end we regret chances we didn’t take, relationships we were too afraid to be in, and decisions we waited too long to make! If I’ve gathered any information about people it’s that we are complicated and complex in every way. Maybe if we weren’t so scared and just did things we would be so much better off, because it’s like my mother says “A chance is a lot like a picture, it would be so nice if you just took it.”

Drunken Driver

You. You didn’t do a thing. You were being the perfect child when you went to that party. All the other kids were drinking and smoking but you just danced and had Sprite instead. When that guy you’ve been crushing on passed you that cigarette, you simply pushed his hand aside & when you were asked “Wanna beer?’’ you simply said no even though the sober friend you came here with is now drunk and screaming in your ear saying “You should live a little”. But even so, you just keep on dancing because despite the drinking, the party’s pretty fun. Seeing all your friends and just having a blast but now the parties winding down & the music has turned slow. You just saw your drunken friend head upstairs with a stranger who has a slick smile on his face. You tried to tell her she’s ruining her life but she’s so drunk she doesn’t even know what you’re saying. She tells you she’ll find her own ride home & you give up knowing tomorrow she’ll call crying asking what happened to her. So you head out and grab an extra soda for the road. You get in the car & thank God that you didn’t give in to temptation and put the can of Sprite in the cup holder next to you. Then you pull off & wave at everyone else who is leaving. You pop open that sprite and start drinking it as you pull up at a light and your phone buzzes. You look down and it’s your mom asking when you are coming home. You pick up the phone and your light turns green. As you press on the gas there are these bright headlights that are blinding you and then you feel it. The impact of the SUV that just smashed into your side of the car. Your head hits the glass and your phone goes flying out the window. Blood is everywhere and since you didn’t bother to buckle up you too fly out the car and land in the middle of the street. You lay there motionless. And then you hear it. The sirens the screams. You look up and there’s your mom screaming about her precious baby. Then the man that supposedly hit you is up & walking; drunk. And as the last seconds of your life go by, you don’t understand why you had to die even though you did the right thing. You tell your mom you love her and tell her to tell Dad be strong. You tell her to tell your brother that your sorry for the argument you guys had before you left to go to the party. A tear runs down your face as your mom sobs. You then feel your eyes pulling to each other and you can no longer hold on. And as you lay there dying, you close your eyes and just before you go you manage to say, “Goodbye.”
